TODO (owner / legal review)
Have a lawyer review this page before relying on it. It is plain language, not legal advice. It describes the site as it is: no accounts, a cookieless visit counter, and reports that open in your own email program.
Find GIS links to publishers' data. It does not host those files, and it does not guarantee that a row is accurate, complete, current, or fit for a purpose. The license belongs to the publisher. Check the publisher's terms before you download, copy, or build on a dataset.
This page is about the Find GIS website. It is not the privacy notice for a publisher, or for CartaTerra, after you follow a link away from here.
Accounts
Find GIS does not ask you to create an account. There is no profile and no sign-in.
Analytics
Find GIS counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. The counter does not use a cookie and does not follow you across other sites, so the site does not show a consent banner for it. It records that a page was opened: the path, the country, the browser, and how fast the page loaded. It does not receive the words typed into search, because the query string is left off the report. It does not receive the contents of a message you send to Find GIS. Find GIS does not store a list of visitors.
Cloudflare Workers logs record errors, with query strings stripped. Those logs do not keep the words typed into search.
Reports
The contact page does not store what you write on Find GIS. Each report is a mailto link. It opens your own email program, and you send the message. The website does not keep a copy, and it does not add the message to the catalog.
A report asks only for these fields:
Broken link
- Dataset id or URL
- Which link failed
- Note
License problem
- Dataset id
- What looks wrong
- Publisher terms page
Takedown request
- Dataset id
- Publisher name
- Your contact address
- What should be removed
A takedown request does not take a row down by itself. Someone has to review it and edit the catalog on purpose.
Other sites
Publisher links and CartaTerra links leave Find GIS. Those sites have their own terms and their own privacy notices. Read those before you rely on them.
